Hello folks, this is another page from my sketchbook.
The old man was (badly) painted on Photoshop. I had some ideas regarding the Death character sketched here. If everything turns out ok, I'll start uploading some cartoon strips with Death as the main character. I've been having some weird ideas. Weird but fun. I mean Fun in a very dry, sarcastic way. Just wait and see.

Hooray! An update!!!

Hey folks how are you doing?
It's been a while since the last update but things are pretty hectic around here.
Anyways, these are some 2 to 3 min. sketches from yesterday.
I tried to use the side of the charcoal in order to get away from the lines. Lines are fun but sometimes it's nice to approach the sketches like a painting.
The line sketch on the right (the one with the model lying down) took me about 5 minutes.

It's been a while...

Hello folks, thanks for your patience.
It's been a while since I last updated the blog, thankfully my life's been busy. Being a dad, teaching in 2 places, doing freelance stuff, etc.
This is a charcoal drawing done from a photograph. Just to shake the rust off, you know? It took me about 35 minutes.

Quick Digital Painting Demo

Hello folks, work's been a killer. That's why I haven't had time to post anything new for a while.
At least I was able to post something today. This is a quick digital painting demonstration (it's more like a sketch really) I did today for some of my students.
It's unfinished, very crude, very loose and yet I like it because it shows the design/painting process.

The Setup

Hello folks, this is a quick 10 minute drawing I did yesterday.
It's from life, done with charcoal and pure lead 8B pencil.
I tried to capture the mood of the pose while focusing on the gestural quality of the drawing rather than the accuracy of details.

Gouache - Final Version

Hello folks, this is the final version of the previous post.
I applied ink all over it and waited for it to dry, then the white gouache was washed off.
I placed them side by side so you wouldn't have to go back and forth between posts (I find that to be rather annoying).

Gouache

Hello folks, this is a study using a technique - washed gouache - I learned from Marcelo Brucke Caribe. It's still halfway done, I started with pencil drawing then applied white gouache. On the next step I'll apply a coat of ink all over it and finally I'll wash the gouache out. The gouache will work as a mask keeping the ink from tinting the paper. All the other areas not covered with gouache will be black.
Once I'm done with it, I'll post some pictures of the entire process.
This one is based on a photograph.

4 Horsemen - FAMINE

Hello folks, I'm trying to redesign the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse as a personal project.
I have worked on it in school, put it aside for a while and now I think it's time to go back to the drawing board and finish the story.
