Still Busy

Howdy!
I sketched this one this afternoon, at work.
I know I need to sketch more from life but I need to get all the rust out of my system first.
Ballpoint pen on sketchbook.
Thanks for stopping by.

Lunch Break

It was early, I was bored, and I was waiting for my class to start.
There was a magazine lying on the table right next to me, my sketchbook was opened and I thought: "Why not?"
There are some artists who question the value of a drawing or sketch from a magazine photograph.
I say "it's better to draw from a photograph than not to draw at all."
Colored pencil on sketchbook. Sketches from photographs.

Some stuff I found inside a Box

Howdy!
I was cleaning up my office and I found some interesting stuff.
These sketches are kinda old but I think they still deserve some exposure time.
They were not meant to be seen, actually. They're just disorganized studies. I turned the page around trying to fit more than one sketch in. So please, don't mind the composition.
So folks, it's out there! Some old, disorganized stuff.
Thanks for stopping by.

Long time no See...

Hello everybody!
Life's been terribly hectic.
I've been teaching 30 hours a week and I haven't had time to post anything.
When the week is over, all I want is to spend some time with my wife and kid (and get some sleep).
It's not that I haven't sketched because I have been sketching in class.
The sketches above were done between my last post and this one.
Thanks for your patience. For those following my blog, my deepest apologies.
I'll try harder to keep it updated.
Thanks for stopping by.

Vacation Sketch

Howdy partners!
A page from my sketchbook, drawn this afternoon using black colored pencil and 3B pencil. It's vacation time and I'm on the road so I didn't have time, nor access to a scanner but I felt I needed to post something. The image quality is not that good because it was taken with a small digital camera. The sketches were done from photographs (I wish I had a model but what the heck? - I think it's better to draw from photographs than not to draw at all).
Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement words and critiques.
See you next update.

Figure Drawing Class

Hello folks, the images shown in this post are from my figure drawing class.
The first one is a 3 minute sketch done with ink wash on Bristol paper.
The second one shows some theory and quick tips I gave to the students in class. Chalk on Chalkboard.
It's kinda hard to draw on chalkboard, it's hard to keep the correct proportions.
Thanks for stopping by.

Early XMas Sketch and Tv Sketches

Hello folks, how are you doing?
I watched some DVDs this weekend and decided to sketch a little. For those who follow the show - yes, the sketches on the left page are from Comedy Central's "RENO911". I just bought the 5th season. Funny stuff, man. Funny stuff.
On the right side, there's a XMAS sketch (I know it's a bit early for that). Maybe I'll paint it digitally and send out as a XMAS Card.
Thanks for stopping by and for putting up with all the nonsense.

Some Nonsense

Hello everyone.
Say hi to my little friends, Ed, Ned, Ted and Fred. I tried to set my mind on "empty" and that's what happened.
It's not supposed to have any meaning. Just some doodles.
Done this morning while teaching.
Thanks for stopping by.

Quick studies - Soldiers

Hello folks, I haven't had time to actually finish something up to post here (busy, busy, busy...).
In the meantime I hope you enjoy the studies.
Thanks for stopping by.

Exaggeration

Hello folks, it's been a while...
These sketches are either from Tv or photographs. I tried to exaggerate the features and shapes a bit.
Thanks for looking.

My son my Hero

Hello folks, the sketches above were drawn this afternoon.
They're (obviously) from photographs since it's really really hard to get my son to sit still.
When he finally gets to sleep, I'm so exhausted I find myself sleeping as well. It's hard to keep up with him, thankfully he has too much energy.
I'm still trying to find where his "off" switch is. So far no progress. Even a "snooze" button would help.
The one where the "K" is visible on his chest is OK but I think I made him a little older than he actually is.
Anyway, he's the main reason and the inspiration behind my work.
That's why I have to keep working harder and harder.
Thanks for looking.

Idle Sketches

Hello folks!
The sketches above were done today, using Pilot hi-tec pens.
The first one was done during an idle time at the college. It's a view from the teachers' lounge.
The second one was done during a figure drawing exam. The students were drawing and I was sketching. I sketched the second one standing up, without anything close by to lean on. That's why the lines are a little messed up. I also made a mistake while drawing the hand, then I drew a more accurate hand afterwards (still sketchy nonetheless).
It was kinda hard to sketch standing but still fun.
Anyways, I just wanted to update the blog.
Thanks for all your support, comments are always appreciated.

Easter Sketches

Hello folks, how's everything?
The Easter came and went and thankfully I had some time to get out of the city.
We decided to go to the beach.
I drank a lot of beer, slept a lot, ate a lot of chocolate and even had some time to enjoy the beach and - believe it or not - sketch a little.
Some of the sketches are from life, others from Tv and photographs.
Thanks for stopping by.

Chicken soup for the artist's soul

Hello folks, how have you been?
I've been sick lately, I caught two flu back to back.
The second one really knocked me down. That was a pumped up flu, it came with a side order of sore throat, fever, headaches and nausea. I'm glad it's almost over.
Anyways, in order to keep myself from banging my head against the wall I decided to do some sketching, especially while I was teaching. It helped the healing process.
These are a few of those sketches.
Thanks for stopping by.

TV Doodles

I haven't had time to take any painting/drawing seriously these past days. I wanted to finish some of my WIPs but I've been so busy I couldn't get any personal work done.
Well, there's always pen and paper around.
And there's always television.
Put the two together and this is what you get.
Thanks for stopping by.

Gestures and Block-in

Hello folks, these sketches are part of a handout I put together for my students.
It's about the importance of starting the drawing with the line of action - capturing the gesture of the figure - and only then start detailing and blocking in the shadows. More often than not they start drawing the details too soon.
The handout itself is not this colorful. In this update I used different colors to set the figures and their drawing processes apart from one another.
Feedbacks are always welcome.
I hope you guys like it.
