Digital Painting in progress

Hello everyone! Today was a really busy day. I spent most of the time today packing stuff, my wife and I will be moving soon. I didn't have time to paint much today so I decided to post the painting in progress. Today's post shows the way I start painting digitally. I usually work with two layers; one for the drawing and another one for the colors. I start pretty loose with the colors, blocking everything and covering all the white areas. Then I add another layer for the drawing, and from there I keep adjusting and redrawing back and forth until it's done. Towards the end of the painting I delete the additional drawing layer, I just use it as a guideline, to check proportions and stuff. Tomorrow I'll show the finished version.
Thanks for your patience.
See you tomorrow.

Not a very good day

Hello everyone!
This was supposed to be a quick painting of a friend of mine, Mikael, but I screwed it up (sorry about that Mikael). You know... good days and bad days. Although I lost his likeness I still like the way this one turned out. I spent about 40 minutes on this one.
Thanks for stopping by.

Painting of Henry

Hello everyone!
I painted this one this morning using Photoshop. It's from a picture I took when we were in Boston, almost 2 years ago. Hope you guys enjoy it (especially you Henry, I painted this one to cheer you up, man. Thanks for holding that pose for me).
Thanks for stopping by. See ya tomorrow.

Quick painting of Mika

I decided to paint a friend of mine who went back to Japan a couple of months ago.
I painted from a photograph, I took the photo a while ago and I used a fish-eye lens. I clicked while she was still speaking (sorry about that Mika).
I painted it digitally using Photoshop.
Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for stopping by.

Quick digital study

Hello everyone! I decided to do some digital painting today (trying to get the rust out of the old gears), this digital study took me about 50 minutes to complete. I need to work on my speed, I'm not that fast when it comes to Photoshop (I'm still trying to memorize the shortcuts).
Hope you enjoy it.
Feel free to come back tomorrow for another digital study.
See ya!

Quick Gesture Drawings

I noticed that I never posted any gesture drawings, so here they are. I used ballpoint pens for these. The models held each pose for about 5 minutes.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for looking.

Head study

I enjoy traditional painting. What motivates me to paint is the feel of the brush on canvas, to squeeze the paint out of the tubes, and the act of mixing the colors. I like using oils but sometimes it's hard to deal with the smell of turp.
I painted this one some time ago, hope you enjoy it. It was kinda hard to work with two different light sources but I kinda like the way this one turned out.
Oil on canvas.
I know it's not a fresh update but I've been really busy these past days.
Thanks for your patience.

Just for fun

Hi folks! I sketched this one this afternoon, just for fun.
I was watching a movie and I saw a really creepy doctor in it. Sometimes doctors just creep me out.
Anyways, hope you enjoy it.
Thanks 4 stopping by.

Busy, busy...

I was looking through some of my old stuff and I found these drawings. These were done for a Graphic Novel class. Didn't have much time to do anything art related today.
Hope you enjoy it, fresh updates coming tomorrow.

Old stuff (yet again)...

I was packing some stuff today and I found this drawing. It's really really old, I did it while I was still in school, it was for Perspective class.
I thought it was worth posting, I still like it, it's kinda funny.
Thanks for stopping by.

Sketching on the train again...

Finally finished.

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I finally finished the digital painting I was working on.
I submitted this one to Ballistic Publishing; they were accepting submissions for their next book, EXOTIQUE 2. They will be reviewing and selecting all the submitted artwork within the following months I think, and the best ones will appear on EXOTIQUE 2.
Maybe they will like mine, who knows?
Anyway, I hope you like the painting.
Thanks for stopping by.

Busy, busy...

Hello!
I've been working on that digital painting all day today, I'll be finishing it up pretty soon, maybe later on tonight. And because of that I won't have time to post anything new today.
Anyway, here goes a watercolor study I did some time ago.
Thanks for looking.

Silly idea

I like elephants...
This one doesn't look very happy though. I thought about placing a thought baloon next to his head with the words - "This is what I get for not listening to my dad. I shouldn't have dropped out of college."
Nah... it's a silly idea.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the drawing.
See ya.

Public transportation...

I rode the Bart down to Freemont today and I was lucky enough to spend some time sketching from life.
It's not much but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
Cheerio!

Bad mood

Hello!
Today wasn't a very productive day for me - I'm still working on that digital painting I posted yesterday - I was having fun until my computer started acting weird. At a moment there I thought I was going to lose all my work. Thankfully I had enough time to save and backup everything. PCs man, I don't know why I still bother buying them.
Anyways, here is a quick drawing (colors and text added digitally) that express what I was going through today.
See ya tomorrow and thanks for stopping by.

Work in Progress

This is the digital painting I've been working on for the past two days, it's not done yet, I still have a long way to go but I like the way it looks so far.
I paint a little, watch some Tv, paint a little more, go out for a coffee, paint some more, sketch...
Although the deadline is thight I don't want to stress myself out with this one, I want to enjoy the act of painting. I don't have much experience with the digital medium, that's why I take so many breaks, I dont' want digital painting to be associated with struggle and stress. I just want to have fun while painting it.
Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for looking.

Hello!
I was (and still am) working on a digital painting, I didn't have much time to sketch. Form the few sketches I did yesterday, I like this one best.
I used blue and white pencils, brush-pen and marker.
Thanks for stopping by.

Self Portrait

Oil on charcoal paper that had been previously glued to an illustration board.

PS: Unfortunately I had to turn 'Moderate Comments' on due to spam. Sadly we just can't get rid of those spammers, even here.

Sketching in Sausalito

This is a page from my sketchbook. The drawing of the bird is kinda old - I'm trying to fill out the blank areas in my old sketchbooks - but the other drawings were done yesterday in Sausalito, CA.
I used blue pencil, brush-pen, hi-tec pens and markers.
Thanks for looking.
